AFL Defenders in SuperCoach 2010

2010 is the year to stock the backline in AFL SuperCoach. There is insufficient rookie/cheap talent. More to be found in other positions. Five to Six Stayers (as opposed to Premiums) should hold the fort. With this in mind, here are five 'unders' who should qualify for Stayer status. Five AFL players who should go up, or at minimum hold value thorughout the season.

Enright Geel $519k 22gms, 98 avg

A consistent Cats midfielder. No more need be said.

Prediction 2010 - 105 avg. Break Even : 104 avg
Worth: $525k

H Shaw Col $503k 18gms, 95 avg

Mooted for more midfield time. Scores well in the back line anyway.

Prediction 2010 - 100 avg. Break Even : 100 avg
Worth: $500k

Hodge Haw $486k 19gms, 91 avg

Will play forward & midfield this year. Will cop much less punishment to his back in these positions, making him more durable than 2009.

Prediction 2010 - 105 avg. Break Even : 97 avg
Worth: $525k

Joel MacDonald Mel $421k 22gms, 79 avg

A bit over the hill, but a spell in a struggling club's backline as the #1 rebounder should invigorate the fantasy points for the year. Perhaps a bit of a gamble. A prediction of 90 avg is scraping at being a stayer.

Prediction 2010 - 90 avg. Break Even : 84 avg
Worth: $450k

Gram StK $420k 21gms, 79 avg

More midfield time and a useful goal-kicker.

Prediction 2010 - 95 avg. Break Even : 84 avg
Worth: $475k

It will be hard to go wrong with anyone priced above Enright. Goddard (break even 123!) would be better left out early, in my opinion. He will drop in price and be a potential midfield pick. With say Ladson in the team, Goddard can be flipped into the backline come finals. That is the best way to use the MPP (multi-position players) who are DEF/MF this year. I have flirted with starting Hodge in the centre, again to flip later. It costs too much in the lost midfield premium. If you are not starting many rookies in the midfield, it may be a viable option to start Hodge or maybe Goddard in the centre. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.
