Ruck Update : AFL SuperCoach

Injury news can completely change the game of pre-season SuperCoach. Dazzling form in a NAB game or two can blind SuperCoaches to the pitfalls of a player. With this in mind, here are two ruck prospects that have leapt a few rungs in the last week or two.

Tippett Ade $426k 22 gms, 80 avg

A barrel of injuries to big men Sellar & Moran. Forward line dropping like flies. Step up Kurt Tippett.

My initial concern with Tippett was that he is a full-forward. Can get stuck upfield, copping some average scores. Adelaide become renown for their speedy ball movement in the second half of 2009 only. The first half was not worth having an Adelaide forward on the SuperCoach team.

Played 1 stellar game as CHF for the Crows. Kicked 5 goals. This is where rash decisions can be made. However, Tippett as CHF is much more attractive to me. Will be required to spend more time in ruck too. As long as he stays away from full-forward, Tippett could be a boon.

Undoubtedly will improve on his 2009 season. The question is how much? Scored some abysmal games last year. CHF and part-time ruck could be the answer.

By my money, not quite good enough (yet) to pick for ruck or forward. Falls just under the radar. If Lobbe was the genuine reserve ruckman that he appeared, things would be different.

Prediction: 2010 - 85 avg Worth $425k Break-even 2010 avg 85

Clark Bris $498k 22 gms, 94 avg

At the beginning of the pre-season, Voss was indicating that Clark would not continue as #1 ruck for 2010.  Dropped off my radar because of that. Charman going down opens the door for Clark to do what he does best - back to ruck.

A short man by ruck standards. Made up for with sheer athleticism and skill. Can perform magic around the ground as the shining part of his ruck duties. A guy to seriously consider for SuperCoach #1 ruck spot. Has to average 100 to make him worth it. Every chance he will do so. The longer Charman stays out, the brighter Clark's prospects.

Return of Charman is the only negative. I would put Clark as the second choice for starting ruck, just above Jolly.

Prediction: 2010 - 95 avg Worth $475k Break-even 2010 avg 100

Skipper Haw $100  0 gms

By word of mouth - the guy is a living, breathing hack. Don't know much about him apart from not playing for the Bulldogs last year. Simon Taylor could be out for up to 4 months. Zip, zip along comes Skipper to take his chance. Rookie-listed, but a near certainty to be elevated.

I sorely wish that Clarkson would turn to Roughead for part-time ruck duties. He was all but ignored last year in ruck. To the detriment of the team. Oh well, the pattern appears established. Skipper will play games and earn some kind of score. Roughead will languish in the forward line, getting 10-12 possessions a game, and still manage 80 points or so with some hangers and goals. Some coaches are set in their ways.

Skipper is now the best ruckman at his price.
