Following on the heels of the Round 1 Captain's Glitch. A Carlton or Richmond player can be chosen as an emergency. If their score is good enough, the option to 'upgrade' them exists.
Requirements:
Unlike with the vice-captaincy, there must be a player that will not play in the same position. eg Relton Roberts as forward emergency & Frankilin to not play Round 1. An emergency can only be utilised with a non-player. The weird option where an on-field AFL player scores zero (Hille in 2009) has thankfully been removed. In 2009 and before, such a player would be replaced by an emergency.
Nason & Farmer (Tigers) are the most likely candidates for this loophole. This would require a backline player to not take the field. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a popular one.
Warnock would become an option if, in many cases, Lobbe (Port) did not play.
Martin, most people would have in their starting team anyway. However, if say a Judd was also picked - the option exists.
This looks a less useful trick than the Vice-Captain Choice. All the same, there will be a few SuperCoaches out there who will get value. A minor jump to the Round 1 score can't hurt, can it?
Two very safe options exist for SuperCoaches in Round 1 of 2010. Even if not used, both should be closely looked at. It may be worth as little as 5 extra points. They are free. The choice is win-win.
Do not ignore, even if your team selection does not allow either - both considerations should be examined by a crafty SuperCoach.
