SuperCoach Captaincy : Round 1 Option

For the first time in 2010 SuperCoach, we have a rolling lock-out. Richmond and Carlton players can be chosen separately. Everyone's on top of that. A great new feature.

But what about the captain?

Hmmm. SuperCoach Captains are very important. If chosen for the Thursday night, it is locked in.

How about the vice-captain?

This is where things get mighty interesting. The vice is only valid if the captain doesn't play. I don't think mine has been activated in at least 2 years. Vice-captains are usually a waste of time.

Here's the Option:

Pick a vice-captain from the Richmond vs Carlton game.
Choose whether or not to 'convert' the vice to captain. After the match! Up to a day after!

There are a few things needed or wanted.

1. A high quality player for Thursday night. At this stage (and most likely to stay), I have none. Am strongly considering handing it to Martin anyway.

2. The captain to play on the Saturday. This is by no means essential, and offers little. Would prefer the comfort of seeing his name where it should be - in the 22. Thinking about it, not important. A captaincy choice would be all about a guaranteed, non-injured player anyway. Ignore #2.

3. A donut option. A player like Buddy or a rookie starting after round 1. Someone to score zero.

3a. Keep a blank Captain until Friday lockout. If Captain is already selected, he can be traded. Save the team. Trade back. Re-save the team. Then the Captain will be blank again. Not valid for Rich & Carl AFL players.

If 3a works, it will be very easy to set up the Captain's option. Choose a/no captain.

This is the best way to make the SuperCoach vice-captaincy useful. For round 1 only. Remember, it is only an option. A guy needs to score more in the first match than the preferred captain would anyway. It's just one match. I'll take a punt and say that not many will go the whole shebang.

Big thanx to Calvin from DT Talk for the article idea.
